Hello world!

Welcome to Edublogs.org. This is my first post. I expect to post on a weekly basis about issues concerning our 1 to 1 initiative at Watertown Senior High.
I have been inspired to start this blog based on the outstanding work of Will Richardson, an ed-blogging guru with an international following. I heard him speak at TIE in April, 2007

Scott, I can only imagine the students reaction to abandoning the 1 to 1. If we took the laptops out of our students hands it would be a riot. I agree that teachers must embrace and allow the laptop to be a part of their classroom. My teachers who have done the poorest job of integrating the technology are the ones who complain about classroom managment issues. It is simple, welcome and utilize the technology, or it will take over your class in a less than positive way.

I see lots of energy and life going into these computer screens. I sometimes feel that we are enabling a huge addiction to grow and thrive. don’t get me wrong, my room is quiet and troubles/office referrals are nearly nonexistent. however, that is not the true nature of this beast.. behaviors and dealing with them is what is normal… every break, any fleeting moment is time to the computer not to goofing around, getting fresh air, talking!! interacting with something other than a object.

computers should be readily available. no question about it, but each kid walking around with one.. carving them up, slamming them shut and down.. total disregard and respect for this awesome little tool is just a heartbreaking sight.
i totally disagree with this laptop initiative.
